Gil Troy is Distinguished Scholar of North American History at McGill University. A columnist for the Jerusalem Post and the Daily Beast, he has authored twelve books, including Moynihan’s Moment: America’s Fight against Zionism as Racism and Why I Am a Zionist. Natan Sharansky is former deputy prime minister of Israel and chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel.

This is really an incredible and incredibly important work. A much needed, long overdue update to Hertzberg's classic volume, this collects all the essential works on Zionism (or samples thereof), with many many dozens of entries, spanning the chronology from earlier times to contemporary, and including many many new and important voices ... Absolutely indispensable for any student of Zionism and for anyone seriously interested in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this volume should really help elevate the level of public discussion and debate ....
If you are seriously interested in ideas, read the original Hertzberg volume and the Shalem Center's *New Essays on Zionism* instead. The selections in this new book are so severly edited and shortened that they basically offer bare conclusions without arguments. Some errors of scholarship will cause Hebrew-speaking readers and others well-acquainted with the material described to wince (the book title "Mateh Moshe" translated as "Moses' Headquarters" (!?!?!) rather than "The Staff of Moses", citing the super-mamlakhti Rabbi Tau as an example of a religious Zionist rebel against the Israeli government, the annoyingly innacurate translation of the lyrics to Yerushalayim She Zahav, etc).
