Book was essentially useless for a description of the San Juan Islands beyond a yellow pages listing of shops, campgrounds, hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, etc.
Bought the item for an upcoming trip to Lopez Island even though San Juan Island appears to be much more well-known. I was very pleased to discover over 20 pages devoted to Lopez Island (with equal detail provided for San Juan and Orcas Island). A separate section addresses the "other" San Juan Islands. Information provided is quite detailed regarding available activities and services on the larger islands like Lopez. The included maps are a real plus, e.g. maps of both the entire Lopez island and the Lopez Village store complex are provided. I'm very glad I took a "flyer" on this so-far-unreviewed book. An earlier version of this book by the same author was rated highly. This June 2012 edition deserves equal praise.
We used this guide for a recent, July 4th, camper trip to the San Juan Islands. It was very helpful. Gave a nice heads up on what to expect for camping reservations. It really saved us by knowing that we had to reserve weeks in advance. From park contact info we were able to get reservations at all the camps that we wanted and plan our trip our well. It was well worth the modest cost and a great guide to have all the info in one place. We stayed in campgrounds, rode our bikes and hiked some of the most beautiful forests I have ever seen. Just spectacular. A good guide book that I would recommend.
Moon travel books are always good.
I love Moon guides. They offer the perfect combination of what to do in town and out of town, especially when it comes to finding stuff off the beaten track.
