The artwork is gorgeous, and the story positively incredible. Sunstone affords a very practical view of BDSM, unlike some dangerously unrealistic novels and comics available, which could lead people to hurt themselves for lack of information. While this graphic novel does have some explicit sexual content, it centers around the human element of it's characters, which are exquisitely well developed, and continue to develop as the story proceeds, causing the reader to emotionally invest in these people who do not really exist. This is the mark of a master story-teller, and I applaud Mr. Sejic for his masterful creation. I will definitely be buying the compilations, until Mr. Sejic discontinues the story, which will be a sad day indeed.
I read the entire series as it came out over at deviant art. I was hooked! I bought this collection of the first three volumes on a whim and I'm definitely not dissapointed as a fan. The artwork is beautifully rendered on high quality pages in a solid but light hard cover book with a very sturdy spine. I was extremely impressed with everything about this book and it will last for years on my bookshelf.The story is a phenomenal romance between two unique yet complimentary personalities and the amount of time put into conveying a true and deeply thought out story just screams from the pages.It's not all about sex. In fact sex is tact on tastefully. The real gem of this story is the relationship and the friends and family who enter the fray. Great read. Been a fan for a bit over a year, will remain one. This is high quality and affordable!
This is my second copy of book one...my first copy is currently sitting across the country from me.I've been a fan of Sunstone since...right around the second or third trade paperback, after a friend linked me to it and told me 'hey, i think you might like this.' To say I was hooked immediately would be an understatement. Stjepan Sejic has an amazing way with character, creating realistic ones you fall for, care about, and feel immensely for. Allison Carter and Lisa Williams are real, well rounded people whose shared interest in a so-called 'taboo' subject (BDSM) brings them together. The shift from on line to real life relationship is a major nexus of the first volume, including all the trial s and travails one might expect...especially when, for each of them, this is both their first real life power exchange relationship AND their first relationship with someone of the same gender.The story is amazing, the artwork is rich and seductive. You'll get drawn in so quickly, and I think that the themes are so universal that anyone can get and appreciate and grow to love Ally and Lisa like I do.Be smart...save up and buy both volumes at once...because once you get hooked you won't want to wait for the second volume to show up.
I own not only this hardback version but the original trades as well and I've been following him on deviantart for years which is where i discovered this comic. Stejpan Sejic is a fun, geeky, silly writer who has been a major influence on me in how I write relationships. His awkward yet realistic approach of how you handle talking with your partner and how communication is paramount, mixed with the beautiful art and the kink aspect is incredible.Not to mention his nerdy aspects and descriptions on how people view BDSM in a HEALTHY manner are a welcome change from what most entertainment avenues attempt to portray.I can't recommend this enough. Whether it's for the humanity of the story, the beauty of the art, or your mild intrigue at the aspects of BDSM, pick this or the trades up and you won't be disappointed, or you might be, but either way you have an awesome comic in your collection.
I found this author's work accidentally on Deviantart years ago. He has several accounts there. The site is where he made this fantastic romance story available originally and continues to do so.He has contributed to several comics through Image, Top Cow, and Marvel (the list grows) and continues to create fantastic art and stories for his own works and in collaboration with others.Buy this book because it's gorgeous and very high quality.Buy this book because it is sultry and arousing.Buy this book because it tells a sincere and achingly beautiful love story.Buy this book because it gives Mr. Sejic another reason to continue to make wonderful art.Also, this story is meant to be told in four parts: Sunstone, Mercy, Jasper, and an unnamed arc that Mr. Sejic has yet to unveil. Gird your feels. This is a rabbit hole you would be remiss to not complete delving.
This is a hardcover version of the first 3 volumes of "Sunstone" which were released as individual trade paperbacks.Contrary to what you might think from just looking at the cover this is a love story first and foremost. The main characters just happen to enjoy a sex life that is just a little more exotic. Well worth the time and money. Just like the graphic novels, it does have nudity and strong sexual content but its a great love story anyone can enjoy. Its a must if you like any kind of story about life, finding your true self and love. No release date on book 2 means you either have to wait for the ending or get the graphic novels
This is such a cute book. It's about this relationship between our two main characters. I came for the wonderfully attractive women on the cover, and stayed for their genuine interactions, their insecurities that spill forth, their challenges of navigating a friendship and their BDSM relationship, and their own discoveries.
